Meet Mark

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself and your interests. 

A: I love travel and visiting new places (when I can!). I met my wife whilst we were both living and working in central & eastern Europe. I also enjoy reading, going out to eat at restaurants & socialising with friends, music and most sports, especially cricket and football. I’m also a boat owner and love getting out on the sea when I can.

Q: How would you describe your role?

A: My role primarily involves working with clients that have cross-border tax issues, both in terms of advising them on how to identify the unexpected pitfalls that come from dealing with multiple sets of tax laws and requirements, and also in meeting their obligations to the relevant tax authorities.

Q: What do you enjoy about your profession?

A: The opportunity to meet different people and to solve their problems for them.

Q: Who is a typical client? 

A: I’m not sure I have too many clients that I would call typical! They can range from individuals moving to and from Guernsey to larger corporate groups and financial services businesses that have interests in more than one country.

Q: What do people need to be thinking about now/ at this time of year in terms of tax?  

A: It’s always important to understand what (and where) your tax obligations fall.

Q: What would be your top tip to somebody who is looking to get their taxes in order?

A: Take advice early. By understanding the implications of what you are planning to do you can avoid nasty surprises further down the road.
