Meet Josh

16 December 2019

A chartered accountant and audit manager in our private wealth team.  In 2019 he was recognised in the eprivateclient's Top 35 under 35 list which highlights the rising stars of the private client world.  Here we share Josh's career pathway so far.

Originally from Wiltshire, Josh studied accountancy and management at Cardiff University and moved back home to gain further qualifications at a local firm. When the opportunity to work in Guernsey presented itself, Josh flew over for an interview on a wet and windy day in late 2013 but luckily was not deterred by the weather; he joined BDO in January 2014 and has since enjoyed the work and healthy lifestyle that living in Guernsey brings.

The clear professional development opportunities and tight-knit team at BDO Guernsey are what first attracted Josh to accept the interview and, later on, the job. He credits BDO with being a company which has high expectations for client service and also a concern for employees’ wellbeing and development. The firm encourages hobbies outside of the office and wants its employees to have a positive balance.

Josh was quickly appointed as a manager in the private wealth team and credits the director who initially interviewed him for positively contributing to his own professional development. He specialises in providing a wide range of assurance solutions to high-profile clients and has strong expertise in assurance frameworks, procedures, reviews and valuations. He recently become the lead for the adoption of BDO’s new audit processing tool in Guernsey and managed training for 50 people alongside his role of managing client projects, leading his team, undertaking quality control and being involved in the firm’s business development.

Josh takes a hands-on approach to ensuring his clients receive exceptional service. Clients tell us that Josh’s work is highly valued by fiduciaries and professional trustees who say he’s consistently polite, professional and easy-going with the ability to provide clear explanations and is always open to discussion. Professional development remains close to Josh’s heart too; coaching his team on how they can develop their professional skills alongside their own careers aspirations is something he prioritises. And, although busy in his role, he makes time to enjoy Guernsey’s scenery and opportunities that island life brings: in the summer you’ll most likely find him exploring the islands coastline or ambling around Sark and showing his UK based friends what island life is all about.

Josh is director and vice-president of the Young Business Group which among many other things involves the organisation of the annual Christmas lights switch-on event in Market Square. 2020 is set to be a big year for Josh as he takes up the role of President of the YBG and moves into a new home that he recently bought with his partner.
