Meet Emma

08 April 2021

Girl racer and talented bowls player, Emma Snell will celebrate her seventh year of working at BDO in our tax team this year. We decided to have a chat with her and ask some questions about her role as Tax Senior.

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself and your interests.

A: I am an indoor and outdoor bowls player and have played in the World Championships in Australia. I have been bowling for the last 15 years. In addition to bowls I am interested in motorsport and am involved locally as a Marshal (yep wearing the orange overalls) and I am also a member of the crew on the rescue unit. I compete in Karting Championships locally and I have been a pit lane Marshal at the British GT’s in Donnington. Outside of that, I enjoy going to the gym and listening to Queen.

Q: How would you describe your role?

A: My role is ever-changing and varied with the changing tax rules and the clients that I work with.

Q: What do you enjoy about your profession?

A: I enjoy working with a large variety of clients with varying needs and circumstances.

Q: Who is a typical client?

A: A typical client, for me, doesn’t really exist. One minute I can be assisting local individuals who just need some help with their taxes and the next I can be working with companies worth millions.

Q: What do people need to be thinking about now/ at this time of year in terms of tax?

A: Getting their information collected and together in order to prepare their return for the previous year and providing this promptly to their advisors, if they have one.

Q: What would be your top tip to somebody who is looking to get their taxes in order?

A: To work out exactly what they need to do and consider seeking advice from a tax professional.
